Roodepoort Theatre, in collaboration with Music Mind Productions, has revealed Legends Live On, a significant tribute concert scheduled for 26 March 2026 at 19h00.

Building upon the theater’s celebrated 45th Anniversary Celebration, which honoured South African stars for their artistic contributions to the nation’s cultural landscape, this new production furthers Roodeport Theatre’s commitment to preserving and celebrating South Africa’s musical heritage.
This exceptional evening will honour David Mabaso, the last surviving member of the legendary band The Big Dudes, renowned for their innovative collaborations with Brenda Fassie. The Big Dudes played a pivotal role in shaping the sound of South African pop music during the late 70s and 80s, creating music that brought together audiences across various divides. Mabaso, affectionately known as Mr Weekend Special for his unforgettable bass groove on the hit song, remains a living legend whose artistry merits recognition on our stage.
Produced by Jacky Carpede, with Lebohang Pangwa and Michael Phillips serving as musical directors, Legends Live On has been transformed into a compelling two-set performance. The first half provides an intimate exploration of Mabaso’s legacy, while the second set connects the past and present through a reimagined showcase of The Big Dudes’ timeless artistry.
