During the ceremony, the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Mr Buti Manamela, stated, “Today is not merely ceremonial. It is symbolic. It marks the convergence of leadership, legacy, and the enduring pursuit of knowledge that defines this institution.”
“Dr Pandor, allow me to extend my heartfelt congratulations on your appointment. Nelson Mandela University could not have chosen a more fitting steward of its values, its aspirations, and its future,” he said.
The position of Chancellor is not merely symbolic, he stated. It holds significant influence. It requires a guardian of vision, a proponent of academic excellence, and a representative who embodies the institution’s identity in the global arena.
“It demands wisdom, integrity, and a deep commitment to the transformative power of education. These are qualities you embody in abundance.”
Manamela characterised Pandor’s career as an emblem of dedication, intellectual richness, and an unwavering commitment to promoting education in our nation. From her tenure as Minister of Basic Education and subsequently as Minister of Higher Education and Training to her ongoing efforts in influencing public policy and dialogue, Pandor has persistently exemplified the essence of purposeful leadership.
