On the evening of Wednesday, 19 March, the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) honoured the recipients of the 24th Annual Spire Awards, which acknowledge exceptional accomplishments in client service, innovative solutions, and overall contributions to the market across the bonds, currency, interest rates, and commodity derivatives sectors.

Thembi Mda-Maluleka, Head of Bonds, Currencies, and Interest Rates Derivatives at the JSE, stated that the Aspire Awards continue to serve as an essential platform for recognising the commitment and creativity of our market participants.

“By honouring excellence in client service and market contribution, these awards inspire new solutions that strengthen the robustness and sustainability of South Africa’s capital markets, and by extension, the broader economy,” Mda-Maluleka said. 

In a recent press release, JSE declared that the winners were selected by the largest institutional investors, and the awards acknowledge the most exceptional accomplishments and inspiring talents that are shaping the dynamic environment of South Africa’s capital markets.

“The awards reflect market sentiment as well as the institutions that have shown excellence and made a notable impact on the country’s financial markets.”

This year, a total of 42 awards were distributed across a wide array of categories, encompassing research, market making, sales, and several other fields that illustrate the richness and variety of South Africa’s capital markets. Standard Bank was honoured with the prestigious Best Fixed Income & Forex House award and the Best Research House award and achieved a total of 12 awards. Absa CIB received eight awards, including the Best Forex House award, while RMB garnered seven awards, which included the Best Interest Rate Derivative House and Best Bond House awards.

The JSE continues to foster inclusive economic growth by offering reliable and responsible products and services, which cater to the diverse financial institutions within South Africa’s capital markets.
